Why stores make this move

Signs you have hit BigCommerce's ceiling

Most stores should not leave BigCommerce for Magento. These are the cases where they should.

Workarounds on workarounds

Things the platform cannot do natively end up as apps, scripts or manual steps that nobody likes maintaining.

B2B rules it cannot express

Quote flows, company hierarchies, shared catalogs and approval rules that go beyond what B2B Edition does comfortably.

Complex business logic

Custom pricing engines, unusual shipping rules or multi-step ordering that need real code, not configuration.

Integration limits

Deep two-way sync with an ERP, OMS or PIM is running into API constraints or forcing middleware you would rather avoid.

Catalog complexity

Highly configurable products, many attributes or several inventory sources are straining the product model.

Control over hosting and data

You need to decide where the store runs, how it scales and who can touch the code.

The trade

Magento 2 gives you control and hands you the upkeep

On BigCommerce, hosting, patching and platform upgrades are someone else's job. On Magento 2 they become yours, or ours if you hire a team to run them.

That is a fair trade when you need what only source-level control can do. It is a poor one if your needs are mostly standard.

  1. 1

    Hosting is a decision

You choose and pay for infrastructure, from your own servers to Adobe Commerce Cloud, and someone has to monitor it.

  2. 2

    Patching never stops

Security patches and version upgrades arrive on Adobe's schedule, and skipping them is how stores get breached.

  3. 3

    Extensions need care

Third-party modules conflict, lag behind releases and need review. Every extension is code you now own.

  4. 4

    Costs shift

You trade a predictable platform fee for developer hours, hosting and maintenance. Budget for them from day one.

Gaps and how we fill them

How we handle the five hardest parts of this move

Custom modules where BigCommerce needed workarounds

The apps and scripts you leaned on become proper Magento 2 modules, written to Magento's coding standards.

URLs mapped across different structures

BigCommerce and Magento build URLs differently. We map every product, category and page and test the 301s before launch.

Data reshaped for Magento's model

Variants and modifiers become configurable products and attributes. We design the attribute structure before moving anything.

Hosting and DevOps planned in

Environments, deployment, caching and monitoring are set up with our DevOps team, not bolted on after launch.

B2B built to your rules

If you need quotes or shared catalogs, we configure Adobe Commerce B2B or build the missing pieces.

What moves, what changes

Three piles, sorted before we quote

Moves with your data

  • Products and categories
  • Customer accounts and addresses
  • Order history
  • Pages and blog content
  • Images and media files

Rebuilt for Magento 2

  • Your theme, as a Magento 2 theme (Hyvä is an option)
  • Apps, replaced by modules or direct API links
  • Shipping, tax and checkout rules
  • ERP, OMS, PIM and CRM connections
  • Search and filtering setup

Protected for SEO

  • Full redirect map to Magento's URLs
  • Meta titles, descriptions and alt text
  • Canonical tags and structured data
  • XML sitemap and robots rules
  • Post-launch crawl and ranking checks
The plan

How the project runs

  1. 01

    Audit

Your catalog, apps, custom features, integrations and URLs, so scope and risk are known before we build.

  2. 02

    Magento 2 build

Theme and custom modules, with each BigCommerce app replaced deliberately.

  3. 03

    Migration and testing

Test migrations on staging, compared against your live store, before the real one.

  4. 04

    Cutover

A timed go-live with redirects in place and close monitoring afterward.

  5. 05

    Run and support

Patching, upgrades and hosting support if you want a team to keep it healthy.

Frequently asked questions

Why move from BigCommerce to Magento 2?

Usually because you have hit a customization ceiling. Magento 2 gives source-level control that a SaaS platform does not. It also brings hosting, patching and upgrade work, so it only makes sense when you truly need that control.

Do we need Adobe Commerce, or is Magento Open Source enough?

It depends on your required features and budget. Adobe Commerce adds B2B modules and Commerce Cloud infrastructure. Open Source can be enough for many stores. We assess your store and recommend honestly.

Will we lose our SEO rankings?

Not if the redirects are right. We map every BigCommerce URL to its Magento equivalent, set 301s and carry over metadata and structured data, then monitor rankings after launch.

What happens to our BigCommerce apps and integrations?

Each one is rebuilt as a Magento 2 module or re-integrated directly against Magento's APIs. We decide which in the audit, so there are no surprises.

Who will run the store afterward?

That needs an answer before you migrate. Magento needs hosting, patching and upgrades. You can staff that yourself, or our DevOps team can support it.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

It depends on catalog size, customizations and whether you need Adobe Commerce features, so we scope it after an audit. We work hourly, from $90/hr depending on the plan you choose.
