Not every idea needs custom code, and that is useful to know early

Custom software is the most expensive way to solve a problem, and sometimes the only good one. The skill is knowing which situation you are in before money is spent.

Whether it is a Shopify app, a Magento module, a BigCommerce integration or a standalone tool, we help you make that call first.

What you get from a first conversation

  • An honest view of buy, configure or build
  • The platform or stack that fits the idea
  • The main risks, named early
  • A rough shape of scope and approach
Buy, configure or build

A simple way to decide

Run your idea through these three lists. Most ideas land clearly in one of them.

Buy it when

  • The need is common (reviews, email, loyalty)
  • A product fits at least 90% of the job
  • You can live with the vendor's workflow
  • The monthly fee is lower than build plus upkeep

Configure it when

  • A platform setting or built-in automation covers it
  • A no-code tool can connect the two systems
  • The need is temporary or still unproven
  • You want to test demand before building

Build it when

  • The workflow is how you win, not a commodity
  • No product fits, and workarounds keep growing
  • You pay several vendors to approximate one process
  • Volume makes per-order or per-seat fees painful
What makes a custom app succeed

Four decisions that matter more than the code

Scope: one job, written down

A good app does one thing well. We write the scope as a short document of what is in, what is out and how you will know it works.

APIs: respect the platform

Rate limits, versioning, webhooks and authentication are where apps break. We design around each platform's rules from the start.

Hosting: decide who runs it

Where it lives, how it is deployed, who monitors it and who gets the alert at 2 a.m. Decided before launch, not after.

Maintenance: platforms change

APIs get retired and dependencies need patches. An app with no owner decays, so we plan upkeep from day one.

Why custom projects go wrong

The four ways we see apps fail

The spec is a wish list

Everything is a priority, so nothing is. The first release arrives late and tries to do too much.

Integration work was ignored

The screens were estimated and the ERP, payment and data connections were not. That is where the budget goes.

One person understands it

A single developer holds all the knowledge. When they leave, nobody can safely change the app.

Built once, never maintained

It works at launch, then an API changes and it breaks quietly. Nobody notices until customers do.

How we work

From idea to a working release

  1. 01

    Tell us the idea

A short conversation about what you are trying to do and why. No rigid intake form.

  2. 02

    Scope and propose

We turn the idea into a concrete scope, an approach and an estimate.

  3. 03

    Build and iterate

Development in sprints with regular check-ins, so you see progress as it happens.

  4. 04

    Launch and support

Deployment plus a clear plan for fixes, changes and what comes next.

Have an idea but no spec?

That is the normal starting point. Tell us what you are trying to build and we will help shape it.

Frequently asked questions

What if I do not have a technical spec, just an idea?

That is normal. We help turn a rough idea into a written, buildable scope during discovery, including what to leave out of the first release.

Does the app have to be tied to Shopify, Magento or BigCommerce?

No. It can plug into an ecommerce platform, WordPress, or stand entirely on its own. We choose the approach that fits the problem.

How do I know if I should buy an existing product instead?

If a product fits most of the job and you can accept its workflow, buying is usually cheaper. We will say so if that is the case. We only recommend building when it is the better answer.

How is this different from your other custom services?

It is the starting point. If you are unsure whether you need a Shopify app, a Magento extension or a standalone tool, start here and we will point you in the right direction.

How do you price something open-ended?

We scope the requirement first, then propose a fixed estimate or retainer, depending on how well defined it is. Rates start from $90/hr, explained on our pricing page.

Who owns and maintains the app afterwards?

Ownership and handover terms are agreed up front. We can maintain the app under a support arrangement, or hand it to your own team with documentation.
