Royalty Dev, Ecommerce Services

Shopify custom app development built around your exact workflow

When no public app does quite what your store needs, we build a private one: Admin API logic, storefront and checkout extensions, and the connections to your other systems.

Where a custom app sits

A custom app is the bridge between Shopify and how you actually work

Your Shopify store

Orders, products, customers

Webhooks and APIs

Events out, changes in

Your custom app

Your rules, your logic

Your other systems

ERP, PIM, 3PL, internal tools

Shopify tells the app when something happens. The app applies your business rules and writes the result back to Shopify or to the system that needs it.

What we build with

The parts of Shopify a custom app can use

Which one fits depends on the job. Picking the lightest tool that works is half the skill.

Admin API (GraphQL)

Read and change products, inventory, orders, customers and more. The core of nearly every custom app, and the way your other systems talk to Shopify.

Webhooks

Shopify notifies your app when orders, products or inventory change, so it reacts instead of polling.

Shopify Functions

Custom discount, shipping, payment and validation logic that runs inside Shopify's own checkout flow.

Checkout and theme extensions

Add fields, blocks and features to checkout or the storefront without editing theme code. Some options depend on your plan.

Admin extensions

Add actions and views right inside the Shopify admin, where your team already works.

Before we write code

The questions that decide whether a Shopify app holds up

Where it runs

  • Embedded admin app, Function, or extension?
  • Which Shopify plan features does it need?
  • One store, or several?
  • Does it need a background worker?

How it behaves

  • API rate limits and query cost
  • Webhook retries and duplicate events
  • What happens when the other system is down
  • API versions, which Shopify retires on a schedule

How it lives

  • Where it is hosted and who monitors it
  • How secrets and tokens are stored
  • Testing in a development store first
  • Who updates it as Shopify changes
How we work

Three rules for Shopify apps

01

Use native features first

If a Shopify setting, a Function or Flow covers it, we say so. The best app is sometimes no app.

02

Build in a development store

Everything is tested away from your live store, with realistic data, before it is installed.

03

Expect Shopify to change

APIs are versioned and retired. We build to current versions and plan for the upgrades.

Describe the workflow your store can't handle

We will tell you whether it needs a custom app, a public app or a simple configuration, and what each would involve.

Frequently asked questions

What is a custom app compared to a public Shopify app?

A custom app is built and installed for one store, or one merchant's stores, rather than distributed to everyone through the App Store. It is the right fit when your requirement is specific to your business.

Can you build with Shopify Functions and the Admin API?

Yes. We use whichever of Shopify's tools fits the requirement: the Admin API, the Storefront API, webhooks, Functions, or checkout, theme and admin extensions.

Do I need Shopify Plus for a custom app?

Not for every kind. Many custom apps work on any plan, but some capabilities, including parts of checkout customization and Functions in custom apps, depend on your plan. We check this before scoping.

Can the app connect Shopify to our ERP or other systems?

Yes. A custom app is a common way to bridge Shopify with an ERP, PIM, 3PL or internal tool. It handles the sync rules, retries and error reporting. See our integration pages too.

What if we are not sure what we need yet?

Tell us the problem you are solving. We will help work out whether it needs a custom app, an existing app, Shopify Flow or just a setting.

Who maintains the app after launch?

We can, and we recommend planning for it. Shopify retires API versions on a regular schedule and your needs will shift, so a custom app needs an owner.
