Moving to Shopify skips Magento 2 entirely
Magento 1 and Magento 2 are different platforms, so leaving Magento 1 is a rebuild either way. That makes this the natural moment to ask whether you still want to run a Magento store at all.
Adobe ended Magento 1 support in June 2020. If you take card payments, running unpatched software is a risk to the business, not just to IT.
Shopify is a strong fit when
- Your store is mostly standard catalog and checkout
- You do not want to manage hosting and patching again
- Your Magento 1 customizations were workarounds, not your edge
- You want a store your own team can update
- You may grow into Shopify Plus

Five things that catch Magento 1 stores out
Customer passwords
Magento 1 password hashes generally cannot carry over, so customers set a new one. We plan the message and the timing.
Years of order history
Old orders arrive as history. We decide how far back to bring them and check how they appear on customer accounts.
Extensions doing quiet jobs
Old modules often handle things nobody remembers, like tax quirks, export files or custom emails. The audit finds them.
Long legacy URLs
Years of products, categories and pages mean a big redirect map, and old links from other sites still count.
Messy data
Old attributes, duplicate customers and orphaned products get cleaned up before they reach the new store.

Talk to usFrequently asked questions
Is it safe to keep running Magento 1?
Adobe ended Magento 1 support in June 2020, so there are no official security patches. Risk rises over time, and card payments make it a PCI compliance concern too. Moving is the safer long-term path.
Should I go to Shopify or to Magento 2?
If your store is mostly standard and you want less upkeep, Shopify. If you rely on deep customization, complex B2B or unusual catalog logic, Magento 2 may fit better. We give an honest view after seeing your store.
What happens to our Magento 1 extensions?
They do not carry over. We audit each one and decide whether it becomes a Shopify app, a native feature, a Shopify Function or a custom app, or whether you can drop it.
Will we lose our rankings?
Not if the redirects are right. We map your Magento 1 URLs to Shopify's structure, set 301s, carry over metadata and monitor rankings after launch. Some movement is normal.
Do customer accounts and passwords move?
Accounts and addresses can move. Passwords generally cannot, so customers set a new one. We plan the email and the timing.
How long does it take and what does it cost?
Timing depends on catalog size, extensions and data quality, so we scope it after an audit. We work hourly, from $90/hr depending on the plan you choose.
